Amaravati, October 17, 2025:

The Supreme Court of India took decisive action on transgender discrimination, lambasting existing safeguards as "reduced to dead letters" and establishing a committee of experts to formulate inclusive policies for job opportunities and academic enrollment.

The bench, led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, responded to a petition highlighting systemic barriers, directing the panel comprising bureaucrats, activists, and scholars to submit recommendations within three months, covering quotas, grievance mechanisms, and awareness drives.

The ruling underscores a 2014 verdict's unfulfilled promise of reservations and equality, amid reports of trans individuals facing exclusion in over 70% of workplaces.
