Supreme court mandates clearing stray dogs and cattle from public areas

Newsroom, November 07, 2025: The Supreme Court of India has issued orders to local bodies and police to remove stray dogs from educational institutions and transport hubs, relocating them to designated shelters to protect public safety. The ruling addresses frequent incidents of attacks and disruptions, requiring swift action and regular monitoring to prevent recurrence.

Additionally, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) must clear livestock from expressways, implementing barriers and coordination with states to mitigate accident risks. The bench, led by Justice B.R. Gavai, highlighted the need for humane yet effective measures, warning of penalties for non-compliance.
