Pune's new demolition rules safeguard redevelopment
Municipal corporation mandates notifications, security and engineer approvals to curb accidents in property rebuilds.
Newsroom, November 09, 2025: Pune Municipal Corporation has introduced strict demolition protocols for ageing buildings, requiring developers to notify fire services, police and adjacent owners in writing, vacate at-risk structures, deploy round-the-clock security and obtain structural engineer clearance.
Debris transport must use covered vehicles, with photo proof of compliance mandatory for new construction permits, addressing past incidents of neighbour damage and pollution from unchecked teardowns.
Senior official Rajesh Bankar said approvals hinge on these steps, while residents like A S Dixit in Kothrud urged enforcement to prevent mishaps, and Prabhat Road's Ketan Kulkarni flagged dust issues in narrow lanes.
