April 1, 2025 — The Vijayawada bypass road, a critical infrastructure project for Andhra Pradesh, is ready for its grand opening by the end of June 2025, following Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s approval to expedite its completion. The 47.88-km stretch, linking Kaza to Venkatapalem and Chinna Avutapalli via Gollapudi, is poised to transform travel on the Hyderabad-Machilipatnam (NH-65) and Chennai-Kolkata (NH-16) routes. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) confirmed that the remaining works, including a three-km bridge over the Krishna River between Surayapalem and Venkatapalem, will be finalized within the next three months.

Construction of the bypass, which began years ago, faced delays due to issues like the relocation of high-tension wires in Jakkampudi, but recent updates show 95% of the work is already done. The project gained momentum after Naidu’s coalition government took office, with the CM prioritizing Amaravati’s connectivity. Once open, the bypass will ease Vijayawada’s notorious traffic snarls at junctions like Ramavarappadu and Benz Circle, cutting travel time by nearly an hour for heavy vehicles diverted from the city center.

Looking ahead, the state plans to enhance the bypass with underpasses across four grids, ensuring better local access for residents in Guntur, Krishna, and NTR districts. “This road marks a new chapter for Vijayawada’s growth,” an NHAI official said, capturing the optimism surrounding the project. With the final touches underway, commuters can soon expect smoother journeys by mid-2025.
