Trump pick Ingrassia faces uproar over leaked racist texts

Newsroom, October 21, 2025:

Paul Ingrassia, Donald Trump's nominee for Special Counsel, is reeling from leaked private messages that expose a pattern of bigotry, including the line "Never trust an Indian" in a Republican group chat, alongside boasts of a "Nazi streak" and praise for Adolf Hitler.

The revelations, detailed by Politico, also feature slurs against Chinese people and mockery of Martin Luther King Jr., drawing swift condemnation from Senate Republicans and Democrats alike, who question his fitness for a role overseeing federal whistleblower protections.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune indicated the nomination's viability is in jeopardy, stating, "He's not going to pass," as calls mount for withdrawal.

The texts, from a Young Republicans Telegram group, highlight Ingrassia's role in a network rife with offensive content, amplifying concerns over Trump's vetting process amid a polarised confirmation landscape.
