A trained German Shepherd named Hunter, known for cracking red sanders smuggling cases and catching wanted criminals in Andhra Pradesh, has died after battling cancer. Tirupati police performed his final rites with full honours on Thursday.

Amaravati, March 26, 2026: Tirupati police mourn the loss of their skilled sniffer dog Hunter, a German Shepherd who served the force with distinction for several years.

Trained at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy in Moinabad, Hunter excelled in tackling red sanders smuggling and tracking high-profile offenders, bringing several key cases to a close and earning praise from the department.

Hunter breathed his last on Thursday after being diagnosed with cancer. As directed by Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu, officers led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Armed Reserve) D. Srinivasa Rao paid their last respects during a special farewell ceremony in Tirupati.
