A tragic collision between a private bus and a tipper lorry near Rayavaram in Markapuram district sparked a fierce blaze early on Thursday, killing 14 people and injuring 23 others.

Amaravati, March 26, 2026: Andhra Pradesh woke up to news of a devastating road accident in Markapuram district on Thursday morning.

A private travel bus collided with a loaded tipper lorry at Rayavaram village, caught fire quickly, and left 14 passengers dead while 23 others suffered injuries.

The bus was travelling from Jagtial in Telangana towards Kaligiri in Nellore district with around 35 people on board.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced ₹5 lakh ex-gratia for each deceased family and ₹2 lakh for seriously injured victims.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow, offered condolences, and released ₹2 lakh per deceased and ₹50,000 per injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, bringing total relief to ₹7 lakh and ₹2.5 lakh respectively. Opposition leaders also voiced grief and called for better road safety measures.
