Markapur bus crash claims multiple lives

At least 10 to 14 people died and over 20 were injured when a private bus collided head-on with a tipper lorry near Markapur in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district on Thursday, triggering a fire that engulfed both vehicles.

Amaravati, March 26, 2026: A private bus travelling from Telangana’s Jagtial area towards Markapur collided with a gravel-laden tipper lorry at Meekalavaripalli near Rayavaram village, leading to a tragic blaze.

Several passengers, including migrant workers from Andhra Pradesh, lost their lives in the accident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased, and ₹50,000 to each injured person.

Rescue teams shifted the injured to nearby hospitals while authorities probe the cause.
