Bus-truck crash kills 13 near markapuram

A private bus collided with a tipper lorry and burst into flames in the early hours of March 26, 2026, near Rayavaram in Markapuram area of Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. At least 13 people died on the spot and 25 were injured, with five in critical condition.

Amaravati, March 26, 2026: A private non-sleeper bus from Nirmal in Telangana, carrying 41 passengers toward Vinjamur in Nellore district, hit a gravel-laden tipper lorry head-on at Meekalavaripalli between Rayavaram village.

The impact caused the bus to catch fire quickly, trapping many inside. Thirteen passengers died, while 25 others suffered injuries and were rushed to Markapuram Government Hospital.

Five critical cases are being shifted to Guntur Government General Hospital.

The bus belonged to Harikrishna Travels. Preliminary accounts mention the driver reported a steering issue, but authorities have launched a full probe. Many victims hailed from Nellore and Prakasam districts, with some migrant workers from Telangana aboard. Control rooms operate in Markapuram, Ongole, and Nellore to assist families.
