Bus truck collision kills 13 in markapuram

At least 13 people died and 25 others were injured when a private bus collided with a gravel-laden tipper truck near Rayavaram in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district early on Thursday. The impact sparked a fierce fire that engulfed both vehicles.

Amaravati, March 26, 2026: A private sleeper bus operated by Harikrishna Travels, travelling from Nirmal in Telangana to Vinjamuru in Nellore district, slammed into an oncoming tipper truck at a turning point around 5:30-6:00 am.

The bus carried about 41 passengers. The crash triggered a massive blaze, leaving little time for escape and charring many victims.

Markapuram District In-charge Collector P. Raja Babu said 13 died on the spot while 25 injured were rushed to the government hospital in Markapuram.

Ten suffered severe injuries and five remained critical; they were to be shifted to Guntur GGH. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock, directed immediate medical aid and a thorough probe into the cause. A control room has been set up to assist families.
