Bus fire kills 14 near markapuram

A private bus collided with a tipper lorry and burst into flames near Rayavaram in Markapuram district early Thursday, killing at least 14 people and injuring dozens more. Among those feared dead were a 25-year-old woman and her infant who were returning home from work in Telangana.

Amaravati, March 26, 2026: A devastating road accident claimed at least 14 lives when a sleeper bus from Nirmal in Telangana slammed into a tipper lorry near Rayavaram in Markapuram district around 6 am.

The impact sparked a fierce fire that trapped many passengers inside the vehicle.

The bus, carrying around 40 people mostly migrant construction workers from Andhra Pradesh districts such as Markapuram, Prakasam and Nellore was heading to Vinjamuru.

A 25-year-old woman named Prabavathi and her months-old baby, who boarded in Jagtial, remain unaccounted for. Her husband Srinu, from Podili village, rushed to the spot in grief. One survivor, Manohar from Markapuram, suffered serious injuries.
