Amaravati, March 25, 2026: YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has asserted that preliminary talks for the ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel greenfield project began during his tenure as chief minister.

He told party leaders in Vijayawada that he held discussions with Aditya Mittal at the 2022 World Economic Forum in Davos and identified sites including Nakkapalli in Anakapalli district.

The foundation stone for the 8.2 million tonne integrated steel plant at Rajayyapeta was laid this week by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The project, with an initial outlay of around ₹70,000 crore and potential to scale up, is expected to create up to one lakh jobs once operations start in 2029.
