Amaravati, March 25, 2026:
Several farmers’ groups met in Vijayawada on March 25 and announced a series of protests across Andhra Pradesh starting March 30.
They want the state and central governments to buy key crops at the declared Minimum Support Price and take steps to ease distress caused by low market prices and high input costs.
Leaders from the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham, A.P. Tenant Farmers’ Association and A.P. Agricultural Workers’ Association pointed out sharp gaps between MSP and actual selling prices.
Maize is fetching ₹1,500–1,700 per quintal against an MSP of ₹2,400, while Bengal gram sells at ₹5,000–6,000 instead of ₹8,500. Tomato prices have dropped to ₹2–3 per kg in many places. Aquaculture farmers also face falling shrimp prices and unreliable power supply.
