Amaravati, March 24, 2026: Dalit representatives met a member of the Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Scheduled Castes in Srikakulam and submitted a strong appeal.

They want closed social welfare hostels reopened so students from marginalised communities can stay and study without worry. They also asked for special coaching to help these students crack competitive exams for the upcoming state jobs.

Leaders highlighted the struggles faced by around 50 sub-castes in Srikakulam and other districts, where lack of livelihood options and basic facilities continue to hold back progress.

The commission member assured them he would urge the government to act on these issues and improve socio-economic conditions for Dalits across the state.
