Amaravati, March 23, 2026: Nesting activity for Olive Ridley sea turtles has intensified along Andhra Pradesh's north coastal stretch, spanning Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and Anakapalle districts.
Forest teams have documented strong numbers in recent weeks, including hundreds of nests in key villages and beaches, with eggs relocated to 31 protected hatcheries guarded by nearly 100 watchers.
Early data shows significant egg collections and thousands of hatchlings safely entering the sea, led by the Visakhapatnam Circle conservation program.
These vulnerable turtles, classified as such by wildlife authorities, face ongoing risks from fishing gear entanglement, pollution, and climate shifts.
