Amaravati, March 23, 2026: The Guntur Municipal Corporation has intensified measures to manage the city's stray dog population.

Commissioner K. Mayur Ashok directed veterinary teams to speed up Animal Birth Control (ABC) operations, which include capturing dogs, performing sterilization surgeries, administering anti-rabies vaccinations, and releasing them to their original areas as per guidelines.

Officials estimate nearly 30,000 stray dogs require these interventions, with current daily surgery rates at 50–60. Plans aim to double capacity to 100 through better infrastructure and a recently operational private-run ABC centre on Ponnur Road.

Authorities also propose designated feeding spots in every ward to regulate public feeding and reduce roaming.
