Amaravati, March 23, 2026: The Andhra Pradesh government has rolled out dedicated mental health and career counsellors in schools, marking a pioneering step in India.

Announced during a training session in Vijayawada, the initiative ensures one counsellor per mandal to address adolescent issues like hormonal changes, exam pressure, substance abuse risks, and suicide triggers from minor incidents.

Samagra Shiksha leads the effort, with counsellors acting as early identifiers and ongoing supporters alongside teachers and headmasters. Psychometric assessments for Classes 8 and 9 start in June to gauge abilities and guide positive development.
