Amaravati, March 22, 2026: Farmers in the Madanapalle area of Annamayya district, part of Andhra Pradesh's key tomato hub in Chittoor region, remain optimistic for the summer season.

Horticulture officials report mostly stable conditions so far, free from extreme heat or heavy rains, with expectations of continued favourable weather through May to support better yields.

Early summer harvesting has begun, shifting focus from the rabi crop that saw expanded planting but mixed results due to moderate production and soft northern demand.

Recent wholesale prices hovered around ₹11-14 per kg for graded tomatoes, with arrivals steady at nearly 100 tonnes in main markets. After earlier price slumps that squeezed margins costs often hit ₹1 lakh per acre growers now pin hopes on steady climate to improve returns.
