Vijayawada, March 22, 2026: The Andhra Pradesh Medical Council has launched the process of issuing Permanent Registrations to Foreign Medical Graduates who studied medicine abroad. Around 400 FMGs waited nearly two years after finishing their degrees, clearing the national screening test, and completing internships.
Delays stemmed from debates over extra internship requirements during the pandemic, but a High Court ruling, a directive from Health Secretary Saurabh Gaur, and recent clarification from the National Medical Commission cleared the path. About 30 FMGs who approached the court have now received their PRs starting March 12.
This allows them to practice medicine or pursue postgraduate studies in India. However, some uncertainty lingers over additional certificate verification steps like apostille demands.
The move brings relief to young doctors eager to start careers, potentially enabling some to appear for upcoming exams like NEET-PG and strengthening the state's healthcare workforce amid growing demand.
