Amaravati, March 20, 2026: Environmentalists, bird watchers, and local groups marked World Sparrow Day with events in Kakinada, stressing the need to protect house sparrows from ongoing decline.

Women participants created eco-friendly rangoli with rice flour to feed birds, while officials highlighted simple steps like providing summer water and building nesting spaces.

Coastal areas like Visakhapatnam and Kakinada see active campaigns by NGOs such as Green Climate, linking sparrow loss to urbanization, habitat changes, and modern construction that limits nesting.
