Amaravati, March 17, 2026: The Andhra Pradesh School Education Department plans to establish seven special centres for children with autism in the combined Prakasam district. This forms part of a larger state initiative to set up 125 such centres through the Samagra Siksha programme.

Each centre receives funding of Rs 22.75 lakh and will offer targeted therapies, including physiotherapy and speech therapy, to support around 150 autistic children in the district who need help aligning psychological development with physical age.

Centres will operate in urban and town areas, building on existing Bhavita facilities for differently-abled students.

Two sites in Markapuram and Yerragondapalem already have the needed infrastructure, while five others in Ongole, Darsi, Chimakurthy, Giddalur, and Kanigiri are adding rooms and accessible restrooms, with construction underway.
