Amaravati, March 17, 2026: The president of Rayalaseema Rashtra Samithi (RRS), Dr. Kuncham Venkatasubba Reddy, has appealed to Karnataka not to proceed with plans to increase the height of the Almatti dam on the Krishna River.

He highlighted risks to downstream ayacut farmers across three states if storage capacity expands and reduces water release.

Karnataka seeks the height rise to store more water for northern irrigation and prevent excess flow to the sea, claiming alignment with the 2013 Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II award.

Reddy wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Karnataka's Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar, stressing potential heavy losses from blocked flows.
