Vijayawada, March 17, 2026: Andhra Pradesh lorry owners have rejected the state government's proposal to reduce vehicle fitness certificate fees by up to 50 percent. The offer followed a central government amendment to motor vehicle rules in late 2025 that revised testing charges.

Members of the Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners Association and district groups met officials at the Secretariat.

They argued that older vehicles mostly over 20 years are used for self-employment by small owners. Only a small fraction remain on roads, many face spare parts shortages leading to scrapping, and high fees add unfair pressure.

Leaders requested the cut stay at 25 percent maximum.
