Vizag, March 17, 2026: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has sharply criticized the central government's approach to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), alleging it prioritizes workforce reduction over production revival to enable privatization.

At a press conference, CITU state general secretary Ch. Narasinga Rao accused authorities of inflicting financial damage since 2021, including stopping wage revisions, salaries, HRA, bonuses, incentives, and loans for five years.

This has forced workers, permanent officers, and contract staffto manage on reduced pay amid ₹5,000 crore losses last year. Exports, once a strength, have stopped.
