Officials stop child marriage of school students in prakasam

Authorities in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district intervened swiftly to halt the marriage of two minor students a Class IX boy and a Class VII girl after teachers and an NGO raised the alarm. The girl has been shifted to a protection home, with legal action underway.

Amaravati, March 16, 2026: Officials in Prakasam district prevented a child marriage involving two underage students from the same village in Gudluru mandal.

Teachers first noticed the Class IX boy and Class VII girl absent from school on Friday. Upon inquiry, they learned the parents had conducted the marriage that day.

An NGO swiftly confirmed the incident and alerted authorities. Police and officials brought the minors and parents to the station for counselling.

The girl was later moved to a Balsadan home on Sunday for safety, following orders from the Kandukur Sub-Collector. Legal proceedings have begun against those responsible.
