Newsroom, March 16, 2026: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has hailed ongoing talks with Iran as effective in restoring shipping through the vital Strait of Hormuz.

In a Financial Times interview, he noted that dialogue has produced results, highlighted by two Indian-flagged LPG carriers Shivalik and Nanda Devi carrying over 92,000 metric tons crossing the strait on March 14 en route to Indian ports.

Jaishankar made clear there is no comprehensive or blanket arrangement for Indian-flagged vessels, with each transit handled individually and no concessions given to Iran.

This comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia, including disruptions from regional conflicts affecting global oil flows one-fifth of which passes through the strait.
