Vijayawada, March 15, 2026: Officials from the Sri Durga Malleswaraswamyvarla Devasthanam, which manages the famed Kanaka Durga temple, have begun efforts to restore the neglected Pasupateswara temple on Indrakeeladri hill.
The ancient shrine, tied to the Mahabharata legend where Arjuna received the Pasupatastra from Lord Siva after a test in hunter form, now lies in poor condition.
Its architecture echoes traditional Varanasi designs with four gateways, and a stone inscription from the 7th or 8th century references the Kiratarjuneeyam episode. The Siva Linga has partially sunk over time.
On Sunday, Executive Officer V. K. Seena Nayak, Chairman Borra Radhakrishna, trust board members, priests, and engineers inspected the site early morning.
They noted strong devotee calls for revival and sent a proposal to the government outlining path improvements, area clearing, and full restoration.
