Amaravati, March 15, 2026: Chittoor district police have ramped up actions to curb illegal sand mining and cross-border smuggling.

On Saturday night, a special team under Additional SP S.R. Rajasekhar Raju checked vehicles at the Naraharipeta post on Vellore road in Gudipala mandal.

Acting on tip-offs about sand moving toward Tamil Nadu, officers stopped two lorries from Chittoor. One driver fled, abandoning his vehicle, while the other Shanmugam, a local resident was arrested.

The sand originated from the Neeva riverbed in Puthalapattu area and was bound for destinations like Chennai, Salem, and Vellore.
