Amaravati, March 14, 2026: Minister for Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections S. Savitha announced that the Backward Classes Protection Act is in advanced drafting and will roll out soon.

The law targets protection of wealth, dignity, and lives for the state's 138 BC communities by penalizing 15 forms of persecution, including caste insults, profession-based offenses, social boycotts, and property threats.

Speaking to media in Vijayawada after a Group of Ministers meeting, Savitha highlighted ongoing consultations with BC MLAs, MLCs, associations across all five zones, plus inputs from the National BC Commission and Attorney General.
