Amaravati, March 14, 2026: IntrCity SmartBus today introduced AQI-enabled services on the busy Vijayawada-Bengaluru route, marking a first for intercity travel in the region.

The buses feature built-in air purification systems that maintain indoor PM2.5 levels around 40 micrograms per cubic metre, based on trial data.

Real-time air quality index and particulate readings appear on in-bus screens and the operator's app, giving passengers instant visibility into cabin conditions.

The move addresses a key concern: studies show air pollution inside bus cabins often reaches two to three times the World Health Organization's recommended limits.

By prioritising cleaner air, the service aims to boost comfort and protect passenger health on this high-demand southern corridor linking Andhra Pradesh's commercial hubs to Karnataka's tech capital.
