Former DGP H.J. dora passes away

Former Director General of Police H.J. Dora, who led the force in undivided Andhra Pradesh, died at 83 in Hyderabad after prolonged ill-health. Born in Srikakulam, he shaped anti-Naxal strategies and police reforms.

Newsroom, March 13, 2026: H.J. Dora, a 1965-batch IPS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, passed away today while receiving treatment at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad.

He served as DGP of the united Andhra Pradesh from 1996 to 2002 the longest tenure in that role after heading intelligence and other key units.

Dora spearheaded intelligence-led operations against Left-wing extremism, earning respect for discipline and reforms like modernizing policing approaches.
