Karnataka saw a 14.59% drop in beer sales this financial year, with officials blaming Andhra Pradesh's new excise rules that keep buyers home plus wet, cold weather in border areas.

Amaravati, March 13, 2026: Karnataka's government reports beer sales fell 14.59% year-on-year as of January-end in the 2025-26 fiscal, short of revenue goals by about ₹4,000 crore against a target.

Authorities point to Andhra Pradesh's updated excise policy, which made liquor cheaper and more available across the border, reducing cross-state purchases in districts like Kolar, Chickballapur, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Ballari, and Raichur.

Excess rainfall and unusually cold conditions in some zones also cut beer demand.
