Amaravati, March 06, 2026: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu marked 30 years since laying the foundation stone for the Veligonda irrigation project, declaring he will personally ensure its completion and deliver water to drought-hit areas.

On X, he stated he initiated the scheme in 1996 and will be the one to finish it.

The long-pending Veligonda project draws 43.50 TMC of water from the Srisailam reservoir to irrigate 4.38 lakh acres and supply drinking water to 15 lakh people in Prakasam, Nellore, and Kadapa districts.

Naidu revived work during his 2014-19 term, spending Rs 1,414 crore, but progress stalled later.

Since 2024, the coalition government cleared pending bills worth Rs 140 crore and invested Rs 585 crore more, including Rs 456 crore for feeder canal lining and retaining walls.

Phase 1 targets completion by July 2026 to bring Krishna waters to Veligonda, with full Phase 2 by 2027-28.
