Amaravati, March 06, 2026: A forest fire erupted in the Nallamala ranges within the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) in Kurnool district, destroying three vehicles belonging to forest protection watchers.

The blaze started in the Pecheruvu area and spread to nearby forest zones under the Atmakur division. Authorities attribute it to members of the local Chenchu tribe, who reportedly set controlled fires to clear paths for bamboo harvesting and honey collection ahead of the Ugadi festival.

Forest teams rushed to the scene and are working to contain the flames, with no injuries reported so far. An inquiry is underway to assess full damage and prevent recurrence.
