Amaravati, March 06, 2026: Andhra Pradesh advances flood safety along the Krishna river with a new retaining wall on its right bank to shield vulnerable communities from seasonal deluges.

The ₹294 crore project covers 1.7 km between the railway bridge and Varadhi, reaching 9 meters high.

It targets protection for about 20,000 residents in Tadepalli, Mahanadu Colony, and Sundarayya Nagar under Mangalagiri Assembly constituency in Guntur district.

The wall aims to handle flows up to 15 lakh cusecs, building on earlier left-bank structures that proved effective during 2024's heavy inflows at Prakasam Barrage.
