Amaravati, March 05, 2026: Telugu inscriptions from Vijayanagara era uncovered at Chennakesava temple in Annamayya district.

Historians identified two Telugu inscriptions on the pedestal of a towering monolithic pillar often called a lamp post standing before Sri Chennakesava temple at Somapalayam, near Mulakalacheruvu in Annamayya district.

The phrases “Subhamastu Swasti Sri Jayabhyudaya” and “Jaya Samvatsaram” appear, with parts worn away over centuries. Script style and the cyclic year ‘Jaya’ date them to 1534 CE, during Emperor Achyuta Deva Raya's rule, just before Krishnadevaraya's era.
