Amaravati, March 05, 2026: APCC president Y.S. Sharmila has strongly condemned the recent arrests of Anganwadi workers in Andhra Pradesh, calling the midnight detentions a "brutal" and "inhuman" response to peaceful protests.

Sharmila highlighted that women workers face harsh treatment for demanding legitimate rights, questioning whether authorities would "put shackles" on those seeking fair pay.

She pointed to unfulfilled election promises by the TDP-led government, including a minimum salary of ₹26,000, gratuity guidelines, upgrading mini centres, paid medical leave, and filling vacancies.

She recalled assurances given by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during a 42-day strike in 2023 when in opposition, urging him to honour them now. Congress pledged full support to the workers' cause.
