Amaravati, March 04, 2026: The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council was adjourned after heated exchanges erupted during a discussion on the long-running Tirumala laddu controversy.
Independent MLC P. Chandrasekhar Reddy raised concerns over ghee procurement quality and processes at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), prompting rebuttals from ruling TDP members.
Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu defended the government’s position, questioned past practices, and briefly made remarks about former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy that drew strong protests from YSRCP benches, leading to demands for apology and withdrawal. The minister later expressed regret.
Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh highlighted family devotion to the temple, defended transparent tendering to the lowest bidder, and pointed to evidence of adulteration from prior probes, including CBI findings on synthetic or substandard ghee rather than animal fats as initially alleged.
YSRCP members accused the ruling side of politicising faith and blocking evidence presentation, with some rushing the podium amid sloganeering. The Chairman adjourned proceedings amid the chaos.
