Vijayawada, March 03, 2026: The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department has partnered with ride-hailing platform Rapido to introduce a pioneering ‘Driver-Cum-Guide’ initiative, the first of its kind in India.

Launched as a pilot in Vijayawada on February 24 during the Partnership Summit, the program trains autorickshaw and cab drivers to serve as cultural ambassadors.

Over 280 drivers 248 auto and 32 cab completed sessions covering local history, sites like the Buddhist Circuit, Amaravati, and Nagarjuna Sagar, plus storytelling, hospitality, safety, and tools like translation apps for foreign visitors.

Rapido added a ‘Tourist Guide’ icon in its app for easy booking of certified drivers.
