Amaravati, March 03, 2026: The Paturu handloom cluster in SPSR Nellore district is set for revival, with Union government funding to uplift 200 weaver families in Paturu and Gummalladibba villages.

The central Small Cluster Development Programme has approved ₹76.32 lakh to breathe new life into the once-proud Paturu weaves, which faded due to outdated practices and limited training.

In the first phase, 84 families received modern equipment worth ₹28 lakh at 90% subsidy. Plans include four dedicated weaver sheds for skill upgrades in contemporary designs, plus MUDRA loans to 25 artisans.

The state government will cover the 5% GST on finished products, while the local MLA has pledged to handle weavers' 10% equipment contribution.
