Amaravati, March 01, 2026: YSRCP general secretary for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare M.V.S. Nagi Reddy has charged the state government with neglecting farmers and failing to ensure remunerative prices, particularly for chickpea and maize cultivators.

Speaking to media at the party office in Tadepalli, he highlighted sharp price drops due to reduced import duties on chickpea, with farmers in areas like Kurnool receiving far below the MSP of ₹5,800 per quintal often needing an extra ₹1,000 bonus to break even.

For maize, grown across over 4.37 lakh hectares mainly in Rayalaseema, farmers reportedly sold at around ₹1,400 per quintal despite last season's MSP of ₹2,400.

Reddy also pointed to delays in e-crop registration blocking procurement of 94,500 tonnes at ₹8,775 per quintal, forcing distress sales. He urged swift action to reinstate higher tariffs, expedite processes, and secure more central procurement.
