Amaravati, March 01, 2026: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y.S. Sharmila on Sunday branded the state's universal health scheme claims a "blatant fraud" and a "conspiracy to kill Aarogyasri."

She targeted the TDP-led coalition government's move to tie the flagship Aarogyasri program originally launched by her father, former CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy with private insurance, arguing it shifts burden onto citizens while the government avoids annual ₹4,000 crore funding under the existing trust model.

Sharmila highlighted ₹3,000 crore in pending dues to hospitals and noted other states are reverting from private models back to government-run ones.

She demanded immediate withdrawal of the private linkage, full clearance of arrears, and continuation of Aarogyasri purely under the trust system to protect millions of low-income families reliant on free care.
