Newsroom, February 27, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with members of the Indian-origin Jewish community in Jerusalem today.
He lauded their enduring connection to India and their achievements in Israel across fields like education, culture, public service, and defence.
Modi described the community drawing from groups such as Bene Israel (mostly from Maharashtra), Cochin Jews (Kerala), Baghdadi Jews (Kolkata), and more recent Bnei Menashe from northeast India as a “living bridge” between the countries.
Around 85,000 Indian-origin Jews live in Israel, with major migrations in the 1950s and 1960s. Community voices expressed pride in holding India as their motherland while building lives in Israel.
