Amaravati, February 27: Doctors are preparing to start advanced treatment for 11-month-old Punarvika from Kurnool district, who battles Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 a rare genetic disorder that weakens muscles and threatens breathing and movement.

Public donations, government support, and contributions from across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana raised over Rs 10 crore toward the Rs 16 crore gene therapy injection (Zolgensma).

The Central government sanctioned Rs 50 lakh under its rare diseases policy, while state leaders including Ministers TG Bharath and Nara Lokesh encouraged the family and helped mobilize funds.

Punarvika's father expressed deep thanks to donors and voluntary groups for giving his daughter renewed hope.
