Tirupati, February 26: Authorities arrested a woman named Ashalatha after she confessed to killing her young daughter in a bid to clear obstacles to her relationship.

The 30-month-old girl had been missing for about two weeks before family members filed a complaint, prompting an investigation.

Police say Ashalatha, separated from her husband for over a year, lived with her partner Reddy Kumar met via social media, in the Auto Nagar area.

The pair allegedly strangled the child and buried her on the banks of the Swarnamukhi River in Papanaidupeta on the city outskirts, seeing the toddler as hindrance to their future together.
