Amaravati, February 26: Little Punarvika, an 11-month-old from Veldurthi mandal in Kurnool district, faces Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type-1, a rare genetic condition that weakens muscles and threatens vital functions.

Her father, a small hair salon owner, launched an emotional appeal after diagnosis, sparking a massive statewide and global response via social media.

Public generosity, amplified by influencers, celebrities like actor Manchu Manoj, and leaders including Nandyal MP Dr Byreddy Shabari who secured Rs 50 lakh from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund has collected over Rs 10 crore.

Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh praised donors and pledged to mobilize the remaining Rs 6 crore, calling Punarvika a “true braveheart.” Treatment with the costly one-time injection is set to start imminently.
