Amaravati, February 26, 2026: A tragic incident in Vombay Colony, Rajamahendravaram, has left five dead and 15 people including women and young children, fighting for their lives in private hospitals due to acute renal failure.

The victims, from 106 affected families, consumed milk supplied by a local vendor between February 16 and 18.

Preliminary investigations point to possible contamination, with no urea detected so far, and suspicions around accidental coolant leakage like ethylene glycol in chilling processes under scrutiny.

Health teams screened hundreds of households, collected blood, milk, fodder, and water samples, and sent them to labs in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, and Kakinada. The vendor was detained, and the dairy unit sealed.

East Godavari officials released health updates, while the state government announced ex-gratia and intensified statewide milk safety checks to prevent future risks.
