Amaravati, February 24, 2026: A tragic outbreak in Rajamahendravaram has claimed five lives due to acute renal failure after victims consumed milk from the same local vendor.
The latest victim, a six-year-old boy, died Tuesday while receiving treatment in Visakhapatnam's King George Hospital. Fifteen others remain under care, many facing severe kidney issues like anuria.
Authorities arrested milk vendor Addala Ganeswara Rao, who ran Varalakshmi Dairy and supplied to over 100 families in areas like Chowdeshwari Nagar.
Preliminary probes point to possible contamination, with suspicions of a freezer coolant leak into stored milk.
Health teams collected blood samples from dozens of consumers, plus 41 milk and fodder samples sent to labs in Vijayawada. Reports are pending to confirm the exact toxin.
