Amaravati, February 24, 2026: Researchers and volunteers have wrapped up the latest cycle of the Garuda Atlas, a long-running bird-mapping project in Tirupati and its surrounding areas.

Over five survey editions since 2022, the initiative led by IISER Tirupati with partners from the Tirupati Nature Society and Andhra Pradesh Forest Department has now recorded more than 55,000 individual birds representing 274 species.

The recent round alone noted strong diversity, including rare sightings like the Indian Yellow Tit (previously unrecorded locally), Shaheen Falcon, Yellow-throated Bulbul, and Black Eagle.

These confirm the ecological health of habitats from urban zones to forests and hills.
