Amaravati, February 23, 2026: Andhra Pradesh authorities arrested M. Sunil Kumar Naik, a 2005-batch IPS officer from the Bihar cadre, in Patna early Monday.

Naik, currently Inspector General in Bihar's Fire Services, was serving as Deputy Inspector General in the Crime Investigation Department during the alleged 2021 incident in Guntur district.

The case stems from a complaint by K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, a former Narsapuram MP and now Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, as well as Undi MLA. Raju alleged severe torture in custody after his arrest linked to statements against the then Chief Minister.

An FIR registered in July 2024 names multiple accused, including former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and IPS officers. Naik is listed as Accused No. 7 under sections covering attempt to murder and grievous hurt.
